The convent of Saint-André-le-Bas is one of the Romanic convents the best the kept by Rhône-Alpes.
It is besides contemporary of the church of the abbey Saint-André-le-Bas, what makes it an exceptional set. The convent is the only vestige of the medieval monastic buildings. Sold to the Revolution and cut in several plots of land, it was restored in 1938 to find its current shape. The influence of the antiquity is visible in the quality of the Corinthian capitals and the decoration of certain columns.

It was built in Ier century AD Leaned in the mount Pipet, it is a major building of the Gallo-Roman city. Abandoned in the end of the antiquity, It was transformed into gardens and put in culture. For a long time identified with the circus, it was searched and restored from 1922. This heavy intervention allowed to show that it was about a theater in semicircle endowed with a wall of scene elements of decoration of which were found. Inaugurated in 1938, it is since 1981 the heart of the jazz festival of Vienna.

Of the church of the Apostles built in 5th century stays the main part of its structure: robust nave ended with an apse framed by two antique columns and bent by a bottom of oven. It is thus the early Christian basilica the best the kept by France and one of the rare in the North of the Alps. The setting-up of a monastic community in the VIth century by saint Léonien, helped by the rich Viennese Ansemond, pulled the renewal of its decoration. In the XIth century, the nave is divided by two rows of hurt arches and a bell tower hall is added on the West. The chapel Notre-Dame is also constructed in this time. In 1809, the first museum of Vienna, based by Pierre Schneyder, settles down in the disused building. The decoration of stuccos realized just before the Revolution is deleted in the campaign of restoration of the 1860s which gives to the building its current aspect.  Saint Pierre  2
